Indiana linked to 9,000-yard transfer portal QB to replace Fernando Mendoza
The TCU Horned Frogs are a little under two weeks away from playing the USC Trojans in the Alamo Bowl, but the team got some pretty hard-to-hear news on Thursday.
According to multiple reports, starting quarterback Josh Hoover is planning to skip the team’s bowl and enter the transfer portal. He has one more year of eligibility left.
With the large number of QB-needy teams next season, the three-star signal-caller should have a decent list of suitors. But according to Chris Hummer of CBS Sports, there’s one team already emerging as the possible favorite to land him.

“TCU QB Josh Hoover intends to enter the transfer portal, a source tells @CBSSports,” Hummer wrote. “Indiana is an early school to watch with Josh Hoover, per sources.”
The 21-year-old Hoover, a redshirt junior, has been TCU’s starter for the last two-and-a-half seasons. He has a 19-12 record in that time and logged 9,629 yards passing, 71 touchdowns, and 33 interceptions.
This season, Hoover totaled 3,472 yards passing, 29 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, ranking sixth in yards and touchdowns in the country.
If Hoover were to land at Indiana, he would have some pretty large shoes to fill.

After two seasons at Cal, Fernando Mendoza transferred to Indiana in the offseason. He threw for 2,980 yards, 33 touchdowns, and just six interceptions while leading the Hoosiers to a 13-0 record, a win over Big Ten rival Ohio State, an appearance in the College Football Playoff as the No. 1 seed, and the school’s first Big Ten title since 1967.
He also won the Heisman Trophy and is projected to be the first quarterback picked in the 2026 NFL draft, and some believes he’s the favorite to go No. 1 overall.
