Blue Jays predicted to cut ties with 26-year-old outfielder in trade
The Toronto Blue Jays have made a handful of impactful moves, most recently the signing of international infielder Kazuma Okamoto. Following this signing, the Blue Jays could make a handful of other moves to finish their offseason.
They’re reportedly looking to add an outfielder to their roster this winter, with Kyle Tucker being the ultimate prize. If this is the case, they could trade one of the other outfielders on the roster.
Jackson Roberts of Fastball OnSi predicted the Blue Jays would trade outfielder Davis Schneider in the coming weeks.
“If Tucker comes to Toronto, there will be a major surplus of outfielders,” Roberts wrote. “Daulton Varsho isn’t going anywhere as the center fielder, George Springer will still play the field on occasion, and Addison Barger, Anthony Santander, Nathan Lukes, Myles Straw, Joey Loperfido, and Schneider are all still in the mix.
“Schneider is mostly a platoon player for the Blue Jays, but there may be a team out there that believes he can be more. Signing Tucker essentially eliminates a platoon spot, as the four-time All-Star would play every day, so the 26-year-old Schneider would maximize his utility as a trade piece.”
Schneider is a solid outfielder for the Blue Jays, but if they add a player like Tucker, Schneider wouldn’t have a role on the team anymore.
Trading him would make perfect sense if the Blue Jays could add a better outfielder. They’d likely be able to net a prospect or two in return. There’s also a chance the Blue Jays could target a relief pitcher in return for the 26-year-old outfielder. Either way, a trade would make sense.
