Brian Laundrie’s sister alleged that some information in the new Gabby Petito Netflix docuseries is inaccurate.
The Context
Petito was killed by her fiance, Laundrie, in 2021 while they were on a road trip across the United States. The case gained national attention following her mysterious disappearance.
Laundrie was found dead in October 2021. The FBI revealed that a notebook found near his remains contained an entry in which he admitted to killing Petito.

Brian Laundrie’s Sister, Cassie, Responds to Netflix Docuseries on Instagram
Cassie Laundrie issued a statement on Instagram on February 17 that she had not spoken to anyone in her family or Petito’s family until Suffolk County Police Detective Tracey Barry called her.
Cassie also said that Barry “gravely miscommunicated” what she told the detective on the phone.
The docuseries features police body camera footage of Barry discussing Petito’s disappearance on the phone with a police officer in North Port, Florida.
“I had called his sister. She called me back and said, ‘Oh, Brian’s home. He told me they got into a fight. He left her at a hotel, and he flew back,'” Barry said in the footage.
Cassie added that she has not been in contact with her parents for almost two years.
She was the only family member to speak publicly during the investigation into Petito’s disappearance.
“Obviously, me and my family want Gabby to be found safe. She’s like a sister, and my children love her,” Cassie told Good Morning America in 2021.

Cassie is Brian’s older sister. Following her brother’s death, she has shared posts about suicide prevention and awareness. She also alleged that Brian was a victim of domestic violence.
“I told law enforcement all about the DV [domestic violence] that happened to my brother in the years. I told the media. I told lawyers. The narrative stays. At this point it’s ridiculous,” Cassie said in a statement on Instagram in November 2024.
