Commanders get Deebo Samuel injury news before Bears game
The Washington Commanders are set for a primetime “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Chicago Bears in Week 6 — a matchup that pits 2024 No. 2 overall draft pick Jayden Daniels against 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick Caleb Williams.
Daniels will be without one of his best receiving weapons in this Week 6 matchup, as wide receiver Terry McLaurin was ruled out with a nagging quad injury earlier this week. Wide receiver Noah Brown was also ruled out with a groin injury that’s kept him off the field for each of Washington’s last three games.
Deebo Samuel is listed as questionable to play in Week 6 as he deals with a heel injury. But on Monday evening, the Commanders got some encouraging news regarding their veteran wideout.
Samuel is expected to play against the Bears on Monday night, according to ESPN reporter Lisa Salters.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter followed that up with an even more encouraging report.
“And Commanders WR Deebo Samuel, listed as questionable due to a heel injury, officially is active tonight vs. the Chicago Bears,” Schefter wrote on X.
The Commanders acquired Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick before the 2025 season. So far, the 29-year-old wide receiver has been an excellent weapon for Daniels and the Washington offense.
Through his first five games with the Commanders, Samuel has reeled in 30 catches for 300 yards and three touchdowns. He’s also taken seven rushing attempts for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Samuel entered last week’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers as questionable with the same heel injury. In that 27-10 Week 5 victory, the former San Francisco star caught eight passes for a game-leading 96 yards and one touchdown.

Samuel has clearly emerged as one of Daniels’ favorite offensive weapons early in his Washington tenure.
“Everything he did in San [Francisco], he’s doing that here,” Daniels said of Samuel earlier this week, via ESPN. “So, we find ways to just to get him the ball and let him make plays.”
Monday’s Bears-Commanders matchup will kickoff at 8:15 p.m. ET.
