Former Chicago Bears LB Takes Aim at Caleb Williams’ Wardrobe

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been in the crosshairs ever since he entered the NFL as a No. 1 overall pick last year. Actually, he has been the subject of criticism ever since he was at USC.

But now, with Williams having a rather uneven showing in both training camp and preseason, the voices are starting to grow louder and louder, and that includes former Bears linebacker Sam Acho, who recently decided to fire a shot at Williams’ wardrobe.

During a recent appearance on SportsCenter, Acho criticized the way Williams was wearing his socks in Chicago’s last preseason game.

“A little thing, but a big thing: even just some of the uniform stuff,” Acho said. “Look at the socks that are halfway down. … It’s not a huge deal, but when you’re looking at a franchise quarterback, the leader of a team, you want to be in full uniform.”

Of course, Williams’ choice of clothing has little to do with his actual performance on the field, but Acho was speaking more from a standpoint of Williams’ socks demonstrating a lack of attention to detail.

Seems like a rather odd judgment, but when you are the top pick in the draft and you are at the center of a huge media market, these types of things will surface.

Williams threw for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions during his rookie campaign, completing 62.5 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 489 yards. While those numbers were solid, he was also sacked 68 times, due much in part to the 23-year-old holding on to the football for too long.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson hinted at that being a problem for Williams again in preseason, noting that Williams has been getting good protection from his offensive line.

Williams will be under the microscope more than ever in 2025, and if he doesn’t deliver, the media frenzy will certainly follow.
