Game of Thrones: Kingsroad mobile RPG is set during season 4 of the show
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is an ambitious, upcoming RPG set in George R.R Martin’s fantasy universe. The mobile game created by Korean developer Netmarble follows an original, player-created character with existing characters like Jon Snow and Lord Varys in a supporting role.
Following a teaser trailer in November, the game was fully revealed to the public at The Game Awards last week. Ever since it showed Jon Snow in its first teaser, fans have wondered where the game will be set in the franchise’s timeline.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Netmarble has revealed that Kingsroad starts during season four of the HBO show. Its protagonist becomes the heir to House Tyre who, as seen in the trailer, joins Snow at the Wall to keep white walkers at bay. On his journey, the unnamed hero will meet many familiar faces from Game of Thrones, including Larys, Jaime, and Cersei Lannister.
Players will be able to customize the protagonist and set their playstyle along three classes: Sellsword, Knight, or Assassin. Like any RPG, each class will come with their unique moveset and abilities.
“We believe Game of Thrones is a world rich with untold stories and adventures, and we’re pleased to bring Westeros to life in an exciting new way for gamers,” said Young-sig Kwon, CEO of Netmarble.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will be released on Android and iOS in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and the Middle East in 2025. The game will also be released in Asia at an unspecified date.
Netmarble has yet to determine whether it will bring Kingsroad to other platforms like PC and consoles.
