How two influencers headed to Nice ended up in Tunis

This week, two influencers unintentionally turned their travel plans into an internet sensation … part comedy skit, part cautionary tale. While visiting Rome, they were supposed to hop on an EasyJet flight bound for Nice, France. Instead, a misunderstanding at the airport led them to the Tunisair counter and that’s when things went sideways.

Cameras rolling, they boarded a flight and later shared the moment online, captioning it: “When the airline employee misheard us saying we needed a flight to Nice, France, and we landed in TUNIS, AFRICA!” Within 24 hours, one of their clips had already been watched more than 20 million times.

At first glance, the story feels too outrageous to be true. Was it a stunt? If not, the pair either missed several glaring signs or simply went along in blissful ignorance. Their paper tickets clearly showed Tunis. Gate screens displayed the destination. Even the onboard monitors would have indicated Tunisia. Yet they boarded, apparently still convinced they were heading to the French Riviera.

For anyone unfamiliar, Tunis is the capital city of Tunisia, a North African nation bordered by Algeria and Libya. Tunisia is famous for its Mediterranean coastline, centuries-old ruins, and bustling souks. But for these travelers, none of that was on the agenda.

According to their posts, once in Africa, the women tried to explain the mix-up to airline staff. Since it seems they weren’t permitted to deplane in Rome, they had no choice but to complete the journey all the way to Tunis before arranging a new flight. You can follow the rest of their adventure here.

The internet’s reaction has been brutal. Commenters piled on with disbelief and ridicule:

• “Two tickets to Nice please.” “Right, two tickets to Tunis. Done.”

• “They scan your boarding pass. How does this happen?”

• “Apple Maps would’ve solved this instantly 💀”

• “You don’t know where Tunisia is??”

• “You ignored every single sign — ticket, gate, screens.”

• And from one Tunisian viewer: “We’re watching this while understanding Tunisian Arabic, English, and French.”

The lesson: Always confirm your ticket, double-check the monitors at the gate and maybe glance at a map before boarding. Otherwise, your glamorous getaway to southern France could unexpectedly turn into a detour through North Africa.
