Iceland to decide next week about Eurovision after Israel decision
Iceland will decide next Wednesday whether to boycott the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, public broadcaster RÚV announced on Friday after it became clear that Israel can take part in the contest staged in Vienna.
The board of RÚV had earlier recommended to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) that Israel be excluded from the music competition next year.
Following the approval of a rule change by the EBU member broadcasters, all countries that wish to participate in Eurovision are allowed to do so, which means there is nothing to prevent Israel's participation in the next one.
Due to Israel's actions in the Gaza war, some broadcasters had called for the country to be excluded from the competition. Broadcasters from Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and the Netherlands announced a boycott of the event in response to the EBU's decision.
