Luigi Mangione GiveSendGo update: How donations have changed in 2025
The amount of money raised for Luigi Mangione‘s legal defense fund has continued to grow toward its goal of $1 million.
Why It Matters
Mangione, 26, is accused of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a hotel in Manhattan on December 4, 2024. He was taken into custody in Altoona, Pennsylvania, following a manhunt that lasted five days.
He has gained significant support from some people, many of whom view his alleged actions as a stand against the health insurance industry, with supporters publicly calling for “Free Luigi.”
Mangione is facing multiple charges at the federal level, including murder through the use of a firearm. He is also charged at the state level in New York and Pennsylvania. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi asked federal prosecutors on Tuesday to pursue the death penalty for Mangione.
What To Know
The fundraiser was created on GiveSendGo in December 2024. By the end of the month, it had raised $212,793.
Over the month of January, the fundraiser collected over $14,000. In the month of February, around $400,000 was donated to the fund.
The fundraiser collected around $130,000 in donations in March.
The donations now total over $830,000, with around $65,000 raised since March 28.
The largest donation listed on the fundraiser is $36,500, which was contributed by an anonymous donor who wrote about the support Mangione is receiving.
“What intrigues me about this case is how unified folks’ responses are regardless of strata,” the donor wrote on the fundraiser page.
Over a dozen of the fund’s top donors gave money anonymously.
Karen Friedman Agnifilo, a lawyer representing Mangione, said he is aware of the fund in a statement posted to his website.
“My client plans on utilizing it to fight all three of the unprecedented cases against him,” Friedman Agnifilo said.
The fundraiser’s organizers said that if Mangione and his legal team accept the money, it will be given to his attorneys to pay various expenses associated with the three cases.
Mangione is being held in federal custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn.

Mangione is expected to appear in federal court on April 18. The next hearing in his New York case state is set for June 26.
