Phillies held team meeting before NLDS Game 3 that seemed to fix everything

The Philadelphia Phillies stormed back in Game 3 of the National League Division Series, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium to keep their season alive.

The Phillies’ bats finally woke up, starting at the top, with Trea Turner going 3-for-5 and both Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper going 2-for-4. Schwarber hit two home runs, including a fourth inning bomb that put Philadelphia on the board and seemingly woke them up.

After the game, Turner revealed that manager Rob Thomson held a team meeting that seemed to get Philadelphia back on track.

“We just had a little quick meeting. Nothing crazy. But just focus on the game, win today,” Turner said. “I think we all know we’re kind of pressing as a group in the first two games and wanting to win so bad. And we know we’re really good. We’ve just got to play like we always do.”

He said the meeting was a few hours before the game and helped them remember to, “just have fun, enjoy it. This is why we play the game.”

The meeting seemed to work, as Philadelphia scored eight runs on 12 hits and finally looked like the team that earned the No. 2 seed in the National League.

Schwarber got things rolling in the fourth inning with his 455-foot blast to right field. He discussed his mindset on getting his team going after the homer.

“When I hit it, I know it’s a home run. I didn’t even see where it landed. I was looking in the dugout trying to get the guys going, get back in the dugout, everyone is high-fiving. And I knew I hit it good. I didn’t know where it went,” Schwarber said.

“I was just more focused on our guys there. I don’t care. Like you said, it could go in the first row, it could hit the freakin’ — that board right there. I don’t care. But hits are great, homers are great, walks are great, anything positive for our offense is going to be great. But, yeah, it was a cool moment.”

The Phillies still have their backs against the wall as they get set for Game 4 on Thursday. However, if they can pull out another win, the series will head back to Philadelphia for a win-or-go-home Game 5 on Saturday.
