- Good for sensitive skin
- Layers well under makeup
Cons
- Might be too moisturizing for sensitive skin
You’d be hard-pressed to find a more popular product than La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios Sunscreen amongst dermatologists and Prevention editors. This beloved formula is the gold standard, because it “provides broad-spectrum SPF 50 protection using 100% mineral UV filters while maintaining a lightweight, fluid texture that’s comfortable enough for daily wear,” says Brianna Olamiju, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist in New York City. “It’s also formulated for sensitive skin, making it an excellent choice for patients who prefer or require a mineral sunscreen.”
It’s noncomedogenic, fragrance-free, and according to several editors, feels super hydrating—even under makeup.
Features at a Glance
| Key Ingredients | Titanium Dioxide, iron oxides, senna alata extract |
| Size | 1.7 oz |
| Tint Options | Light, medium, medium/deep, deep |

Pros
- Sweat- and water- resistant formula stays even on ultra hot days
- Layers well beneath makeup
- Comes in both SPF 30 and SPF 50 formulas
Cons
- Texture is very thick and creamy, rather than lightweight
For a reliable, everyday SPF, reach for Sun Bum’s mineral sunscreen lotion, which is conveniently water-resistant for up to 80 minutes. If you prefer to go with a certified vegan and cruelty-free pick, you can feel confident using this formula—which is also fragrance-free, mattifying, and slightly tinted sunscreen to offset the white cast.
Dr. Garshick also notes that because it’s fragrance-free, it’s also a good pick for those with sensitive skin. “This sunscreen incorporates 20% zinc oxide to provide broad-spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 50 coverage while also containing shea butter, cocoa butter and vitamin E to also nourish the skin,” she says.

Cons
- High price point
A mineral version of Supergoop!’s popular Unseen Sunscreen, Mattescreen is a must for your beauty bag (year-round). “For patients with oilier skin or those who wear makeup regularly, I often recommend Supergoop! Mineral Mattescreen SPF 40 because it provides broad-spectrum mineral protection in a lightweight formula that helps control shine throughout the day,” says Dr. Olamiju. “The smooth, primer-like texture also layers well under makeup, which can encourage more consistent sunscreen use.”
It’s become a favorite of Prevention Senior Commerce Editor Charlotte Finigan—seriously, she forgot she even put it on, it’s that lightweight—because it leaves skin feeling silky while protecting against harmful UV rays.
Features at a Glance
| Key Ingredients | Titanium dioxide (1.33%), zinc oxide (17.42%), wild butterfly ginger, bamboo extract, glycerin |
| Size | 1.7 oz |

Pros
- Ideal for sensitive skin
- Contains niacinamide, which helps soothe redness
- Affordable
Cons
- SPF level is lower than some competing products
Cerave’s mineral sunscreen contains ceramides, which help the skin retain moisture—and that’s why Meghan Feely, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist in New Jersey and New York City who serves as a clinical instructor at Mount Sinai, gives it her stamp of approval. The oil-free, noncomedogenic, non-greasy formula also contains niacinamide to soothe redness, making it a great sunscreen pick to use on your face. After testing myself, Cerave has been decided as my go-to daily sunscreen for summer because I love the glow it gives me. (My husband asked no fewer than three times if I was doing something different with my makeup because my skin looked so nice.)
Hot tip: If you like Cerave but prefer an untinted sunscreen, Dr. Nava Greenfield, a board-certified dermatologist at Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York City, recommends the brand’s Invisible Mineral Sunscreen, which “has ceramides, glycerin, and niacinamide, which together give a lot of hydration to the skin along with a mineral protection that applies on smooth without a thick white cast behind.”

Pros
- Those with sensitive skin will love the hypoallergenic formula packed with aloe
- Comes in lotion and stick form
- Water-resistant for up to 80 minutes
- Affordable
Cons
- Some reviewers with darker skin tones complain of white cast
This mineral sunscreen “contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in particle sizes that are too large to penetrate the skin, so it won’t cause irritation,” Dr. Garshick previously told us. “It provides SPF 50 broad spectrum coverage and the bottle changes color when you are exposed to UV light so you have a reminder when you need to apply.” Formulated with organic aloe, it’s gentle on even the most sensitive skin, and we love that it’s made without ingredients that could harm ocean reef life (so it’s eco-friendly, too!).
Features at a Glance
| Key Ingredients | Zinc oxide (10%), titanium oxide (8%), organic aloe vera, Vitamin E |
| Size | 5 oz |
| Tint Options | None |

Pros
- Contains niacinamide and lactic acid to calm and clear skin
- High SPF level
- Lightweight, breathable, and won't pill under makeup
Cons
- Not a true mineral sunscreen
Let’s get this caveat out of the way: EltaMD’s UV Clear Blemish-Prone & Oil Balancing sunscreen is a hybrid, meaning it’s not a true mineral sunscreen. It contains zinc oxide alongside a chemical filter called octinoxate. If you’re not completely opposed to a hybrid, this particular combo is a really effective formula for acne-prone skin because it lowers the amount of zinc oxide, which can trap sweat in your pores when applied in high percentages.
Note that this product is, in fact, different from the brand’s regular UV Clear formula. “The UV Clear Blemish-Prone and Oil Balancing type is designed for acne-prone and more oily skin types that may break out from a regular mineral sunscreen,” says Dr. Greenfield.
While octinoxate isn’t exactly beneficial for sensitive skin types, the reason EltaMD’s formula is so popular is because it also contains niacinamide, an anti-inflammatory that buffers octinoxate’s potentially triggering qualities, and lactic acid, which both hydrates and exfoliates.
Features at a Glance
| Key Ingredients | Zinc oxide (11%), Octinoxate (3.5%), niacinamide (5%), lactic acid, sodium hyaluronate, bisabolol |

Pros
- No white cast or residue because of tint
- Great for layering under a full face of makeup
- Hydrating formula also contains skin-protecting ingredients
Cons
- Pricey for small bottle
This option makes a great everyday SPF. “Its universal tint is ideal for most skin types and provides the sheerest amount of coverage to blend into all skin tones,” Dr. Casey says. It also comes highly recommended by Janiene Luke, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist in Loma Linda, CA, as it boasts hyaluronic acid to help hydrate and antioxidants to offer additional protection against skin-damaging environmental factors. After testing, I concluded that this finish is best for winter months when I prefer a semi-matte texture.
It’s also a go-to rec for Dr. Olamiju: “In addition to broad-spectrum SPF 50 protection, it contains iron oxides and antioxidants, making it especially well suited for individuals managing melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation who need protection from both UV and visible light.”

This pick from Eucerin is great if you’re looking for a sunscreen you can use all over—and one that’s also suitable for sensitive skin. “This ultra-lightweight lotion sunscreen uses mineral-only filters that can be used on both the face and the body,” says Joshua Zeichner, M.D., board-certified dermatologist in New York City. “It easily can be spread to large body surface areas and fully rubs into the skin without leaving a harsh, white cast. Plus it offers 80 minutes of water resistance.”

This bronzy, tinted sunscreen not only helps protect skin from UVA and UVB rays, but it also adds hydration and radiance to your complexion—no wonder it went viral in 2026. It “blends seamlessly with darker skin tones,” Dr. Luke explains. It also offers antioxidants like niacinamide and protects skin from blue light.
“I’ve found that it’s perfect for busy mornings and no-makeup days when I can’t be bothered to go through my entire makeup routine, but still want my skin to look smooth and even with minimal effort,” wrote Hannah Jeon in her recent review. “Plus, this sunscreen has also never irritated my dry and sensitive skin—thanks to a hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic formula that’s free of fragrance, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, oil, and dyes.”

“I really like this sunscreen from Badger for both my body and face—it truly goes on ultra sheer, with no white cast at all!” explains Prevention’s Associate Commerce Editor Hannah Jeon. “It does feel a bit greasy when you first apply it, but once you rub it in and it fully sinks into the skin, it feels super moisturizing and lightweight—almost like I just have moisturizer on. If you’re packing your pool bag and you want to toss one bottle in for the whole gang, opt for Native’s mineral formula. (Yes, the deodorant brand.) With 17% zinc oxide, this clean ‘screen was reformulated in 2026 and is now completely transparent on skin, meaning no white cast. In addition to the unscented variety, it also comes in three fresh scents: Pear & Coconut Water, Tropical Breeze, and Vanilla Milk & Shea.
Dr. Garshick likes it because with an SPF level 30, it can be used for both face and body. “It is lightweight, won’t leave a white cast, and contains glycerin, which helps to hydrate the skin,” she says.
