I Stayed at This Boutique Hotel in Roma Norte—and It Might Be One of Mexico City’s Best
In a neighborhood known for its creative energy, leafy streets, and cafe-hopping culture, Casona Roma Norte manages to feel both classic and entirely fresh. Housed inside a coral-colored historic mansion trimmed in soft gray, the boutique hotel sits on a quiet corner in the heart of Roma Norte, exactly where you want to be if walkability, design, and a sense of place top your Mexico City wish list.
The moment I arrived, I knew I was in good hands. Before paperwork, before pleasantries, I was greeted with a simple question: “Ms. Drillinger, would you like a glass of wine?” It was a small gesture, but a telling one. This place knows how to help you relax.
Casona Roma opened just over a year ago, and in that short time, it has already earned a Michelin Key, a rare distinction that places it among the best boutique hotels in Mexico City. The recognition makes sense once you step inside.
The lobby at Casona Roma Norte opens seamlessly into the hotel’s light-filled courtyard,.

The building itself is a restored historic mansion, but the interiors are anything but dated. With only 32 guest rooms, the hotel maintains an intimate, residential feel. The design walks a careful line between mid-century modern and stately elegance, layered with contemporary touches that keep everything feeling current.
Artwork throughout the property has been custom-created for the hotel, lending each space a sense of cohesion. The hotel reads like a thoughtfully curated home
My room was an example of understated comfort. The bed was generous and indulgent, dressed in crisp white linens and anchored by a softly textured headboard. Furnishings skew warm and minimal, fusing clean lines with tactile materials so the space feels calming rather than stark. It’s a room that encourages slow mornings.
And mornings here are especially thoughtful.
Each morning, Casona Roma Norte sets out an “Eye Opener” spread on every floor, offering coffee, tea, dried fruits, nuts, and light bites so guests can ease into the day before heading to breakfast.

Each morning, every floor hosts an “Eye Opener” spread — a quiet, communal moment featuring coffee, tea, dried fruits, and nuts. It’s perfect for easing into the day without having to change out of your robe or fully commit to breakfast just yet. It was the perfect gentle start as I wandered out, half-awake, for a warm cup of tea.
When you are ready for something more substantial, breakfast is served in the hotel’s airy, light-filled courtyard, framed by exposed white brick and soft natural light. A simple breakfast is included, but an additional menu serves heartier dishes like omelets, chilaquiles, and nutrient-packed super food bowls.

At the moment, dining takes place primarily in that serene courtyard space, but Casona Roma Norte is in motion. The hotel has partnered with Zero Group to overhaul its food and beverage offerings, with new restaurants and a rooftop bar currently in development.
Attached to the hotel is La Macaria Matcha & Tea Room, which quickly became a favorite spot to post up with my laptop. Specializing in Japanese matcha, teas, and infusions, the space offers both casual visits and curated tea tastings. During a tasting, a tea expert guides you through a selection of brews paired with delicate snacks like macarons, smoked salmon rolls, and chocolates.
Casona’s rooftop gym is compact, but fully functional for travelers who want to keep up a routine. There’s also a small wellness room offering massages, aromatherapy, exfoliation treatments, and facials. It’s not a full spa, but it delivers exactly what you want after long days of walking Mexico City’s endlessly engaging streets.

If you’re deciding where to stay in Mexico City, location matters. Casona Roma Norte excels here. The hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring Roma and Condesa on foot, with restaurants, galleries, parks, and cafes all within easy reach. I rarely needed an Uber.
But what truly sets Casona apart isn’t just its design, amenities, or accolades. It’s the atmosphere. The staff is warm, genuinely friendly, and attentive. There’s an ease to the experience that makes you feel like a welcome regular.
Casona Roma Norte is intimate without being insular, and impeccably stylish without feeling unapproachable. It honors its historic bones while embracing a modern sensibility that feels right at home in one of Mexico City’s most dynamic neighborhoods.
With new dining concepts on the way and a rooftop bar soon to open, it’s a hotel that is still evolving, which, for me, is part of the appeal. I left already thinking about my next stay.
If you’re looking for one of the best boutique hotels in Mexico City, especially in Roma Norte, Casona deserves a spot at the top of your list.
