IDF, Shin Bet seize weapons smuggled from Iran to West Bank

Israeli forces intercepted a major Iranian weapons shipment smuggled to West Bank terrorists, including mines, rockets, drones, and rifles, in a joint IDF-Shin Bet operation.

The IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) seized a large stockpile of weapons smuggled from Iran to terror operatives in the West Bank, the military announced on Wednesday.

The shipment of weapons was sent by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and was discovered following the arrest of a weapons dealer near Ramallah, Israeli public broadcaster KAN News reported.

The weapons seized included 29 anti-personnel mines, four drones, including two explosive drones, 15 anti-tank rockets, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, three rocket launchers, 20 hand grenades, 53 pistols, seven assault rifles, nine machine guns, and 750 bullets, Army Radio’s Doron Kadosh clarified.

A Shin Bet official told 103FM that the northern West Bank is “replete with Iranian weapons” in January.

In April, outgoing commander of the IDF’s Jordan Valley defenses, Lt.-Col. Aviv Amir said that the IDF successfully held back the Iranian axis from smuggling weapons into the West Bank over the Jordanian border.

Defense Minister Israel Katz made it a primary focus to invest 5.2 billion shekels in a new, more secure border fence to aid in preventing smuggling on behalf of terrorists in the area, The Jerusalem Post reported in April.

IDF carries out additional counterterror operations across West Bank

Earlier on Wednesday, the IDF confirmed that soldiers from the Judea and Samaria Division carried out arrests of terrorists, destruction of explosive devices, and searches in over 200 buildings across the West Bank on Tuesday.

These operations included confiscating weapon parts, Molotov cocktails, a pipe bomb, and other materials inciting terrorism.
