Iranian foreign minister calls for ceasefires in Lebanon, Gaza

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Saturday called for ceasefires in Lebanon and Gaza, days after Tehran fired a salvo of missiles at Israel.

On a visit to the Syrian capital Damascus, Araghchi described a ceasefire as “the most urgent issue,” the Iranian state news agency IRNA reported.

The foreign minister said Israel is the main obstacle to peace and called on the international community to oppose Israeli “war crimes” in order to achieve peace.

Israel has warned that it will retaliate after Tehran’s missile attacks, with one likely avenue being strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
