James Gunn drops new ‘Supergirl’ trailer with best look at Jason Momoa’s villainous Lobo

Instead of Jason Momoa leaving DC, he has instead been recast as one of the biggest and most fan-favorite villains: Lobo.

Lobo is an alien bounty hunter who has appeared in and caused havoc for Superman and his allies. It appears he is on the job in attempting to track down Supergirl. The latest DCU film in James Gunn’s universe, “Supergirl,” stars Milly Alocock as Kara Zor-El, who is the cousin to Superman.

Ahead of the film’s release, Gunn has been dropping teasers, and the latest not only gives some more context on what Supergirl will be dealing with, but also who she may be fighting in the new movie. Not only is the teaser a new look at the action, but it also reveals the best look at Momoa in the villainous role of Lobo.

In the trailer, Kara appears in a bar full of enemies who all have weapons drawn on her. Shortly after some dialogue about the fall of Krypton, the 30-second trailer ends with Lobo gracing the screen. Momoa is seen on the iconic motorcycle of Lobo, right along with his famous weapon, the chainhook.

Lobo uses the chainhook to cause lots of damage, along with tying up his bounties.

So far, not much is known about the plot of “Supergirl,” only that it directly follows “Superman.” Kara Zor-El did appear at the end of Gunn’s first DCU film, but she was just showcased as wanting to go to a planet where she could get drunk.

Though Gunn is no longer making movies with Marvel, the “Supergirl” trailers have appeared to be right along the same style of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise. Oddly enough, Gunn is not writing or directing this new entry in his grand universe, but he is producing it.

There is also no information on why Lobo appears in the movie, but it is believed that he will begin his hunt of Kryptonians in the new DCU entry, and that could include Superman himself.

Gunn is already hard at work on his follow-up to “Superman,” which is aptly titled “Superman: Man of Tomorrow.” The grand DCU is starting to take shape, and Supergirl and Lobo are the new characters that will be highlighted on the big screen.

Expect some more crossover characters to potentially be shown in the new movie, which may also include the Justice Society. Either way, Momoa being recast as Lobo was something that fans asked for, and they certainly got just that.
