Pat McAfee subtly hints at unexpected ‘College GameDay’ change

On Saturday, Dec. 20 ESPN‘s “College GameDay” kicked off from College Station ahead of a College Football Playoff showdown between Miami and Texas A&M.

While the contest between the two teams that defeated Notre Dame, spurned from the playoff, was the main attraction, ESPN’s pregame show delivered a new take on an instant classic. Pat McAfee’s kicking contest segment generally see a student attempt to kick a 33-yard field goal on a makeshift field outside the respective stadium of the school the show is visiting.

This time around, though, the student was allowed to attempt a kick from inside Kyle Field – home of the Aggies.

During the segment, McAfee allowed the student to take several attempts at the shot and even offered up to $1.5 million after the student revealed his intentions to donate the majority of his winnings to charity.

While attempting to give the student a few extra tries, McAfee appeared to hint at the potential end of the segment. His words, caught by Awful Announcing, pointed towards the end of the kicking contest as he said, “It’ll be our final kick of the season, maybe of the entire series,” while introducing the student.

During the student’s final attempt at winning $1.5 million, McAfee said, “One more kick. Final kick of the season. Final kick, maybe, of the field goal kicking contest.”

Is the kicking contest over or will a sponsor step in to save the day?
